Southwest Region Conference ACS Serves Flood-Ravaged Avoyelles Parish
When devastating flooding from Tropical Storm Arthur impacted Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, the Southwest Region Conference answered the call to serve.
At the request of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Southwest Region Conference Adventist Community Services (ACS), under the leadership of Pastor Darriel Hoy, coordinated donation management efforts in Moreauville as communities transitioned from emergency response to long-term recovery. With more than 1,500 households reporting flood damage, volunteers helped bring hope and practical assistance to families facing tremendous loss.
Volunteers from the Alexandria Smyrna, Alexandria Maranatha, and Baton Rouge Faith churches faithfully served Wednesday through Friday at the Moreauville Fire Department, receiving, organizing, and distributing essential relief supplies. Among those serving were several young people, who worked alongside adult volunteers, demonstrating Christ's love through compassionate service and reminding the community that the next generation is committed to making a difference.
As residents begin the long road to recovery, Southwest Region Conference remains grateful for Pastor Hoy's leadership and every volunteer who served as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Please continue to pray for the families affected by the flooding, as well as the volunteers, first responders, and community leaders working tirelessly to restore hope across Avoyelles Parish.
